Located in a peaceful valley between the Taconic and Green Mountain Ranges, Wallingford is a small, but bustling town. Wallingford Elementary School is part of that energy, located directly across the street from our historic town hall. The school grounds are familiar to many generations of residents, as they held the high school decades ago was before it was replaced by the elementary school in 1951 with the new building built in 1969. The school is a source of pride for the community and our students who engage with neighbors and mentors in community events throughout the year.
Wallingford Elementary School focuses on proficiency-based learning as its pillar of the larger Trailhead initiative of the Mill River Unified Union School District. Through a progressive lens, we meet students where they are in the different content areas and supporting them to grow. We focus on levels, not grades, and support a growth mindset.
Differentiated instruction, project-based learning and focusing on the social and emotional well-being of our students are all important components of education at WES. We believe that giving students agency and personalized education prepares them to be dynamic and informed community members.
